This is the the 2ND Amendment Language; A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. That is all of it.
We all except the fact that Amendments are not inviolate. We know this because we have added Amendments. We have added an Amendment and then written a follow-on Amendment to abolish it. We went back to being able, as a nation, to drink ourselves silly. As one with Irish ancestry, I applaude the 22ND Amendment, but I digress.
When the founding fathers wrote this amendment, England re-invadiing was a real possibility. The war of 1812 turned that possibility into a fact. At the writing of the 2ND Amendment, the United States had an insignificant defense mechanism. No real Navy, Army, or National Guard (modern era militia). Things have changed radically from the writing of the first ten amendments, collectively known as the Bill Of Rights. Our military is the big cahuna of the world. In fact our military, being bigger than the next ten in the world combined, makes it the only canuna.
The 2nd Amendment starts by giving the reason why the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. That was pre our National Guard. I have also read an interpretation that the words, shall not be infringed, meant that right was already inviolate. The exact opposite is proved to be true by the existence of the 2ND Amendment. Some obviously felt the right to infringe existed, therefore making the amendment necessary. Over two-hundred years of societal evolution our US Constitution and its Amendments have been debated, challenged, and had interpretations of them modified. All except the 2nd. This is interpreted like the conditions of the eighteen-hundreds still exist. How idiotic, delusional, and harmful to our society this really is!
